Common Drain Problems

Tree roots or ground movement can cause drains to become blocked. These cracked pipes made from earthenware then allows tree roots in. Another possibility is a pipe that has moved so that the pipe holds water. Over time this builds up water/faeces/grime/oil so the head of water cannot push through creating a backlog.

To clear drains, Pine Rivers Plumbing uses a high water pressure JET RODDER. High water pressure cuts through oil, tree roots etc. We typically use this over the electric eel which can cause damage to compressed or squashed pipes.

My water bill is too high, but I can not see any burst pipes
  • Burst pipes don’t always show up as a wet spot in the garden or grass.
  • Sometimes the first you know about it is when you receive your water bill and it is excessive.
  • Sometimes you will find the road gutter is wet because the water has found it’s way to the stormwater line which runs to the street.
Why do my pipes rattle, hum or make vibration noises? Possible causes could be:
  • Tap washers bouncing,
  • Pipes not clipped off correctly or maybe a
  • Faulty shutoff valve.
Toilets filling slowly
  • We will look at cleaning our possible dirt in the filler value or maybe rust
Toilet keeps running
  • We can fit new rubbers or filler value
Toilet base moves
  • We will tighten the seat and replace screws if necessary
Toilet leaks when flushing
  • A new flush of cone rubber may be needed.
Replaced tap washer still leaks
  • The surface that the washer is resting against is called a seat and this sometimes gets a gauge caused by water pressure. This is fixed by reseating (filing) it smooth.
  •
Musty smell in a room next to plumbing
  • Water is leaking through the wall possibly from a washing machine, internal pipe, shower pipe, basin or toilet.
